“SK8 or Die” ring by Mark Jones

by Adam on 11/16/2011

Why not take one of the many Techdecks you have laying around your room and re-purpose it into an awesome looking ring? That’s what jewelry designer Mark Jones did. Made from copper, sterling silver, sourced miniature skateboard trucks and wheels (looks like Girl wheels), grip tape, roller printed and fabricated. Photos by Michael Dale Bernard.

The concept and execution is great but I’m not sure about the grip tape on the outside. That could make for some pretty raw knuckles—but then again, this a piece of art where form rules over function.

Michael Jackson’s replica jackets: J5 collection

by Adam on 11/10/2011

If ever I had $2,400 to drop on a jacket, now would be the time. Two replica Michael Jackson jackets from both “Thriller” and “Beat It,” are on sale exclusively at Amazon.com. Limited edition of 500 each and signed by the 5 remaining Jackson brothers (Jackie, Tito, Marlon, and Jermaine).

The only question is, do you wear it out and be the freshest kid on your block but risk getting it dirty or stolen, or do you frame it and charge your friends a “viewing fee”? Either way, get insurance on it for when it gets stolen.

The color of skateboarding

by Adam on 10/20/2011

Ever wonder what the color of skateboarding is? Fung Kwok Pan (industrial designer/developer/artist) developed a program that figured out just that. The color of SkateboardingIn his own words, “This is a system created to find out the colour of anything, by querying and aggregating image data from Flickr, a popular online photo sharing community. It is an attempt at answering a potentially complex and abstract question in an objective manner, by using simple algorithms on data originating from subjective human perceptions.”
Try it yourself, thecolorof.com. Find out the color of anything.

Apple’s website crashed after iPhone 4s announced

by Adam on 10/4/2011

Twitter has been blowing up after people (me included) tried to access apple.com after the iPhone 4s was announced. Seems their server crashed from either too much traffic, updating issues, or a funny (but could be true) rummor that the hacker crew Anonymous could be behind it all.

Remembering September 11th

by Adam on 09/11/2011

It was on this day, 10 years ago, unfathomable attacks on humanity claimed nearly 3,000 lives. Tomorrow, New York City will open the 9/11 Memorial dedicated to all the men, women and children who were victims of such atrocities.

How was your day?

by Adam on 08/24/2011

A simple question displayed as a simple answer. This cool new calendar by Life Calendars lets you draw how you are feeling each day in the form of a smiley face–or frowny face, or “whatever you are feeling that day” face. Towards the end of the year, if your calendar is starting to look like one big emo fest, you might want to consider picking up a skateboard and enjoy life…or for a quick fix, just buy a Counter Act tee (they’re pretty therapeutic*).

New Northglenn Skatepark Photos

by Adam on 07/28/2011

*UPDATE (11/11/11): The lights are now up!*
*UPDATE: It’s now open! The lights are not installed yet so the park is open from sun-up to sun-down.*
Please forgive the poor phone photo quality.Northglenn Skatepark, ColoradoNorthglenn Skatepark, ColoradoNorthglenn Skatepark, ColoradoNorthglenn Skatepark, ColoradoNorthglenn Skatepark, ColoradoNorthglenn Skatepark, ColoradoNorthglenn Skatepark, ColoradoI ventured out today to take some pics of the progress for the new Northglenn skatepark. Team Pain is doing a kick ass job as usual. The park has a ton of features from handrails and a step-up, to a bowl and even a “clam shell.”
Although the park itself looks complete—minus the landscaping—there is a huge sign that says the grand opening is in 7 weeks (so around September 17th). Weather permitting, my guess is it will open sooner—legally or not.
